When a couple
chooses to be married
in the Florida
Keys, it’s because some
part of them appreciates the
natural beauty. It follows,
then, that their clothes, hair
and even makeup matches
the setting.
"Almost all of my brides
like the natural, beachy
look," said local makeup
artist and hair stylist Lorri
Bollander. "They want to
look like themselves, but
also free and fresh."
Bollander said the makeup
is usually understated and
the hairstyle is soft and
relaxed.
"Many of the brides
choose to wear their hair
down, or half down and others
like a low bun," she said.
"Much of it depends on the
bride’s dress and personality."
Key West’s brides often
adorn the hairstyle with
tropical flowers, feathers or
vintage veils. Others choose
head bands or small tiaras.
For Bollander, the most
heartening moment is when
the bride gets her first look
in the mirror after the airbrush
makeup has been
applied. The special product
and technique can
mask age, scars and
skin problems.
"After I spray on the
makeup, I ask them
to look in the mirror.
There’s definitely a ‘wow’
factor. They can’t believe
that they look this good and
it isn’t even finished yet. It
usually brings them close to tears."
"This girl, the bride,
deserves to look her best,"
Bollander said. "One of
my favorite parts of doing
makeup and hair for brides
is hearing their story … how
they met their fiancée. I want
to bring that love out and
make the girl glow, enhance it
to the next level. Every time,
I’m astounded by how gorgeous
that woman is and how
it makes them look beautiful
and feel beautiful and takes it
to the next level."
