It was pretty exciting to see my name in print even if they did spell my last name wrong (Bolander).  The reporter did a pretty good job of getting across how I feel about bridal hair and makeup. sorry i'm just getting to this email now.  somehow coming home from a trip somehow makes time move faster!  the wedding went incredible!  my hair and make up were just outstanding.   really there are no words for what a wonderful job you did.  i had no idea my hair and make up would ever  hold up the way it did.  the pictures came out awesome.  I am researching my ass off to start a camp down there so I'll keep you posted.  Thanks again!

Do you want the drama?

Ok so, lately a lot of brides are concerned about eyelashes. Should they get them or does it look to fake. Here is the thing-false eyelashes are great for women who have minimal lashes or not very long ones. There are two different kinds. Strip lashes which most of us are familiar to . This can be a little more on the fake looking side only because they are more obvious. This isn't a bad thing in my opinion. It's all in perception. It just adds more drama and attention.

 People Kim Kardasian and Jennifer Lopez usually wear strip lashes because they want the attention. Granted they are made of mink or something outrageous like that.

Individual lashes  are more on the natural side. They are individual bundles they are put on one by one. You have a little more control on the outcome and you can even just put them on the corners of your eyes for a little flair. This has been a little more common this last season.

My opinion is go for it!  Its your day to look your best. Almost every bride asks to have attention drawn to her eyes. This is the best way. Go for it!

Remember if you don't like them you can take them off. Nothing is permanent.

Exciting News!

So sorry I haven't posted anything in a while. I have been busy opening up a new makeup studio. The name is The Key West Make-up Lounge. I am so excited!

I have created an environment that I believe every women can enjoy. It is very relaxed and inviting. So, you can still receive that one on one attention you deserve.

Now you can come over and relaxed at the Lounge or I can still come to your location. Its all about convenience.

I will be offering makeup lessons as well as brow shaping. In the fall I hope to launch my own makeup line.

As things progress I will keep you updated and even post some pics.

Lorri- Hi and thank you so much for the beautiful job you did on my hair and makeup!!!!!!!!  I was a bit wound up that morning especially since I overslept on the most important day of my life!!  I was able to get a good look at it after the ceremony and it was just PERFECT!!!  Thanks for listening to what I was looking for and for being patient with our craziness that morning!!!  I felt like a princess and had compliments on my hair and makeup all day!!!!

I just recovered from a crazy busy weekend!

So this weekend was one of my busiest in long while. I had 7 weddings! Most of them on Sat. I felt like Edward Scissorhands in the bridal world. It was world wind but, I loved every minute of it. I'm so lucky I love what I do.

I meet some amazing people every week and get to make each one as happy as I can. I love to see the smile and excitement on every brides face. 

There is nothing better than being in the beauty industry and helping woman bring out what everyone else already sees.

Are you always trying to find the perfect mascara?

On a makeup blog called The Beauty Stop which I follow regularly I found this great find. A sample of several different mascara's in one kit. Maybe this can help you figure out what is perfect for you.

My personal favorite is Voluminous Mascara by Loreal. My new favorite shade is carbon black. I don't see the point of brown or brown/black mascara. The point of mascara is so you eyelashes pop and stand out. In my book you got to go black when comes to your mascara. Remember they recommend changing your mascara around every three months. Bacteria grows in the makeup and can cause eye infections. Also never let someone else use your mascara. You will contaminate your mascara that way too.

Please remember your sunblock!

The sun can be quite brutal down here. The more we get into the summer the stronger the sun gets. I have even got a little redness after starting to be outside at 5pm!

Your pictures are of course going to be very important for your special day. You want to remember this timeless event not your crazy tan lines that could of been prevented.

Please wear at least a 15-30 SPF if not 45 on your face arms and most important and forgotten your chest.  Hats are great too. There are so many fashionable really cute hats out there now a days.

I cant tell you how many tan lines I have had to blend away because of unexpected tan lines or should I say burn lines.  Lets not forget the famous racoon eyes we have all had at one time or another. Thank God for airbrush.

Also try not to do any all day water excursions until after your wedding day. (if you can) I once had a bride who got sun poisoning . Her feet where so swollen she couldn't wear any shoes and could barely walk. I felt so bad!

I realize sometimes we forget or don't realize how long we have been out in the sun. Just thought this might be a good reminder for you and your bridesmaids. Also don't forget to reapply your sunscreen

Hey Lorri,
Just wanted to let you know that all of us girls were EXTREMELY happy with our hair and make-up!  You did exactly what we wanted, but did it better! :)  You were also nice to chat with too!  I cant think of anyone I would have rather had there helping us get ready.  Thanks so much!  Also, wanted to make sure that you got everyone's payment and a tip as well.  It was kind of hectic so I didn't get to make sure of that before it was time to go!

For all of you who jsut cant figure what you should do with your hair I thought I would share some of the most popular looks lately everyone seems to be doing.

Everyone has been asking for loose more piecey hair styles. The french braid across the the front too. I love that look but it is funny to me that I am braiding again because braides have been so outdated for the last 10 years!  Well as we all know everything comes back. So, keep that in mind that you want something timeless and classic. Here are some examples.

Body Painting

So one of my new found loves is body painting. I recently went to a convention for body painting and face painting in Orlando. I had a blast! Talk about creativity. This is something that takes a lot of practice but is so cool!  Check out some of the pics I took. I did not paint these models for the exception of the fake pregnant belly. Something else I plan to do too as well as casting pregnant belly's then painting them as keepsakes. I saw that for the first time for a documentary for Pamela Anderson. Hoping with in the year of more classes and practice can be half as good as all the artist I saw. This takes makeup artistry to another level! I will keep you updated with my progress.

So I have been not only busy with weddings but, with some corparate work too. I got hired to do two hair and makeup jobs for some corporate videos. The first was for the Santa Maria Suites located on Simonton Street. The second was for the Yakata which is from a clothing line called Jams World. It is this beautiful Japenise inspired robes that are so colorful and so comfortable.

The Santa Maria shoot should be on the web very soon. The Yakata shoot will be on the Sky Mall website in July and be in the magines by the end of the month!

eyebrow threading

Eyebrows are what really make a difference on how your makeup is going look.It opens your eyes up so you can really have more room on your lid for makeup. Having your eyebrows shaped properly can be life changing . As funny as that sounds it is soooooo true.  The latest and greatest technique is called threading.  This is really the neatest thing ever. 

Originally from India only a simple thread and talent of the person using it properly is all it is.  Threading is taking the string and in a particular way of tying it and placing it over sections of hair and pull the hair gently out. (well as gentle as hair and can be pulled out!!!) This method of removing hair for eyebrows is going to give you the most clean sharp brow you could ask for. 

Threading is great for people like myself who skinis very sensitive to waxing and cant stand tweezing.  It is still gonna to cause some pain but I find the more you get your eyebrows threaded the easier it gets. 

If your going to spending money on professional makeup. I recommend having your eyebrows shaped first. You will get a much better result.

I am available for eyebrow threading . Please call for appointment.  I don't recommend receiving this treatment the day of your special event.

I have been doing this on my clients and everyone is so excited and they love it.

This blog a new venture for me. This site has been recently revamped. I would love to hear some feed back on what everyone thinks. There is more to come . I plan to write on things that I find most brides find important. Also, to eduacate others on how things work as far as your wedding day. I will try to put out little tips to try and make yuor planning efforts a little easier. Or if you have some insight to help others write a post yourself.

mask age, scars and

skin problems.

"After I spray on the

makeup, I ask them

to look in the mirror.

There’s definitely a ‘wow’

factor. They can’t believe

that they look this good and

it isn’t even finished yet. It

usually brings them close to tears."

Shorter hair can still be styled fun and even be put up!

 I get a lot of bridesmaids or family members who sit in my cchair and feel like there is not much to do with there hair.  So not the case!  Even with short hair cut over the ears can be spiced up a bit. Most of us know that hair is almost always styled better by a professional. We have all the tricks and give you a different perspective.  Everyday hair and makeup is not meant for a wedding day. Have some fun! 

Now medium hair such as a short bob can be put up in an updo or at least look like like an updo. I do this all the time. It takes a little extra  time and a lot of bobby pins but the end result is great.  Every woman I have done this for is amazed and so excited to have there hair up.  If you did not know any better you would think they had long hair!

Yes it is that good!

I am a bigger doubter when I here about alot of new things in the beauty industry.  I always go back to my old favorites. Well not no more!!  

 Airbrush makeup is not that new anymore. I have been using it for quite awhile now but, not everyone as expierenced it yet.  You will have a mouth dropping moment when you see how good your skin will look after the application.  It is so lightweight. I always say it looks like what we all would love to look when we wake up in the morning. It is so natural looking and you feel like you have nothing on. 

I have not expierenced any negative reactions from any of my brides. Love it ! Love it! Love it!
